Rights Respecting Schools

At The Coombes, children and adults are working together to recognise and act upon the rights of the child. We have recently been awarded the Unicef Rights Respecting Bronze Award, where we learn about the rights of the child through the United Nations Conventions of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). 

This comprehensive human rights treaty is made up of 54 different articles, through which children are taught to understand their own rights and also to appreciate and respect the rights of others. 

We choose to teach our children that

• they have rights and should be informed of them
• they should be helped to exercise those rights and enforce them
• that their rights should lead to responsible actions
