Safeguarding

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility

Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. Safeguarding means that we aim to ensure the well-being of students both emotionally and physically, and will take steps in order to ensure that young people are not at risk, either from themselves or from others.

All professionals at The Coombes ensure that their approach is child centred: this means considering at all times what is in the best interests of the child. It is the duty of all staff to raise any safeguarding concerns with the appropriate safeguarding lead without delay.

Parents should feel able to come and talk to any of our team, and/or the safeguarding leads named below. Children are also encouraged to approach a member of staff that they feel comfortable with if they want to share a worry or concern.

Key roles in safeguarding

  • The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) are Luke Henderson and Kathryn Foster
  • The Deputy Designated Leads (DDSLs) are Emily Barrett, Jenn Kleeman, Katie Havis and Emily West
  • The Designated Local Governor for Safeguarding is Louise Connelly

Safeguarding policies: We regularly update key policies in relation to safeguarding.

Child protection procedures
If there are serious concerns about immediate risk to a child or that a child has suffered significant harm and continues to be at risk, the school will contact Wokingham Children's Services immediately. If a child is in immediate danger, the police will also be contacted.

NSPCC Advice for Keeping Children Safe

It is important that our children also learn about keeping themselves and others safe. We plan and promote opportunities across the curriculum for all year groups to ensure they have experiences that develop their knowledge and confidence to do so.

To see where each of these opportunities happens, please see the Safeguarding Curriculum Map below.

Our Safeguarding policy can be found on the Policies page.
